Biography
Dr. W.A. de Silva (1859–1923) was a pioneering Sri Lankan physician, philanthropist, and nationalist who played a crucial role in Sri Lanka's independence movement. He was one of the first Sri Lankan doctors to receive Western medical training and established a hospital in Colombo. Dr. de Silva was a close associate of Anagarika Dharmapala and was involved in various social reform movements. He funded the establishment of educational institutions and supported the Buddhist revival movement. His contributions to healthcare and nationalism have made him a celebrated figure in Sri Lankan history.
