Biography
Abdel Halim Hafez (1929-1977) was an Egyptian singer, actor, and composer known as 'al-Andalib al-Asmar' (The Dark Nightingale). Born in a village in Sharqia Governorate, he became one of the most beloved voices in Arabic music. His romantic songs and emotional performances made him an icon of Arab culture. He also appeared in several films and composed music for many of his songs.
