Step-by-Step Rituals
Enter the state of Ihram
Before reaching the Miqat (boundary of Makkah), make the intention for Umrah and recite the Talbiyah: 'Labbayk Allahumma labbayk.'
Perform Tawaf
Circle the Kaaba seven times counterclockwise. Start from the Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad) and end each circuit there. Pray two rak'ahs after Tawaf at Maqam Ibrahim.
Perform Sa'i
Walk seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwah, starting at Safa. This commemorates Hajar's search for water.
Shave or trim hair
Men should shave their head (Halq) or trim hair (Taqsir). Women should trim a fingertip's length from the end of their hair.
